To integrate your Gmail or Google Workspace account (historically referred to in various plugin contexts as Google WebMail/Filer) with Mozilla Thunderbird, you no longer need third-party filers or specialized local extensions. Modern versions of Thunderbird connect directly to Google’s servers using native, secure IMAP and OAuth2 authentication protocols.
Follow these steps to seamlessly sync your Google WebMail folders, filters, calendars, and address books directly inside Thunderbird. Phase 1: Enable IMAP in Google Mail
Before modifying settings in Thunderbird, you must grant external email applications permission to connect to your Google account. Log into your account via the Gmail Web App.
Click the Gear Icon (Settings) in the upper-right corner and select See all settings. Navigate to the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
